Ever since I can remember, my Mom always remembered special occasions with cards and letters. No matter where I was in the world, cards would catch up to me on occasions like birthdays and Christmas and there was always at least one letter per month in my mailbox. I am sure all my brothers and my sister were regular recipients of these well wishes too.

For me the promise of reciprocating with a return card or letter was a nice thought but seldom a reality. Everyone’s birthdays, anniversaries and other upcoming events were scribbled on a list that had turned yellow over the years. I think my sister has it to this day.
